Samir Islam

 

Samir Islam is an incoming senior at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor studying Sociology and Biology. Apart from excelling in academics, he is a member of the Bengali Students Association on campus and participates in numerous sporting activities. Working as a Safe Spaces intern at CAIR-MI has given him experience in case law research and graphic design, allowing him to sharpen and form new skills. Samir's future plans include law school with a possible focus in healthcare policy.

 

Maria Arrine

 

Maria is a senior at the University of Michigan-Dearborn majoring in History with a concentration in African American Studies. Maria has aspirations of going to Law School post undergrad and sought an internship at CAIR due to her interest in Civil Rights and the law. Maria was a Safe Spaces intern and conducted extensive research on organizations and other entities in Michigan. Her internship provided her with excellent experience and insight into civil rights that will help her in her future career as a law student.

 

Shaffwan Ahmed

 

Shaffwan is a pre-Pharmacy student at Wayne State University. He received the Compact Scholarship in high school after graduating from Cass Tech. Shaffwan served as an operations intern at CAIR and helped maintain the operations of the Michigan office. One of his future goals is to establish an organization to help people that are lacking in basic needs, who are often overlooked. He would like to make a difference near his hometown or somewhere overseas, so long as he is able to help as many people as he can and make a difference.

 

Nargis Rahman

 

Nargis Rahman is a senior at Wayne State University. She is completing a degree in Journalism with a minor in Psychology. Nargis has written for and interned at The South End, (Wayne State's student paper), Fox 2 News Detroit, The Muslim Observer, and The Hamtramck Citizen. Nargis aspires to become a community journalist, working closely with those in the Metro Detroit area, where she believes there is a need for a stronger voice. Nargis is also involved in the Muslim Students Association, Bangladesh Students Association (WSU Chapters), Wayne State's Journalism Institute for Media Diversity, and Muslim Ummah of North America. She is dedicated to being an American Muslim voice in North America.

 

Faiz Ahmed

 

Faiz Ahmed attends Oakland University and plans on majoring in international relations. After working as a Media intern at CAIR-MI as a major contributor to the "Muslims in motion" blog, Faiz decided to minor in journalism. He will finish an associate's degree in business management with a concentration in accounting from Oakland Community College. Faiz wants to work for charity organizations which will help uplift those afflicted with poverty. His future plans also include studying Islam at an Islamic University. During the 2008 Presidential election, Faiz volunteered for "Muslim Democrats" by helping register voters.
