CAIR-MI Discusses Islamophobia, Race Relations and Law Enforcement Misconduct at US Social Forum

 

(SOUTHFIELD, MI, 6/28/10) - The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) recently participated in several workshop addressing Islamophobia, race relations and law enforcement misconduct at the US Social Forum in Detroit.

The Forum, which was attended by some 15,000 persons convened to discuss varying social justice issues facing American society and the world.

CAIR-MI representatives spoke at workshops on "Arab-Black Solidarity," "The Media Hijacked My Religion," "The Need for Non-Muslim Allies to be in Solidarity With Muslims to Support Religious Equality" and "Islamophobia in the Left."

CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid also addressed some 2,000 persons at a main plenary session regarding profiling of Muslims during border re-entry and continuing concerns of agent provocateurs and the recruitment of informants by the FBI in mosques in the wake of last year's fatal shooting of Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah in Dearborn.
